Friday Freeze Out and a Heart Felt Thanks from BUI
Jan 8th
Bama is the Mythical National Champion. The $EC has won four straight MNCs. The SEC has never lost a BCS Championship game. Georgia is unranked in the final poll for the first time since 1996.
In other news, despite Brent Musburger throwing Kirby Smart into the Texas Tech head coaching search, the rumblings have never been louder about him coming back to Athens. I do not know. For the first time, I am starting to think they we can’t afford him. The domino affect of bringing Kirby in at well over $600k/yr on a multi-year contract has to give Damon Evans reason for pause. Richt probably feels like he has been pushed into this Kirby hire and may have a tad bit of resentment about it.
I fully expect Richt to make an offer to Kirby, but I have my doubts everything possible will be done to lure him home.
Pat Forde said the $EC must be stopped. That did not happen. Mike Bianchi is calling not for Tebow or Meyer’s feet to be kissed, but the league as a whole. Kevin Scarbinsky and Jeff Schultz have both bought personal seating licenses on the Bama bandwagon.
Despite the success of this year’s title game, Boise State did go undefeated and the populist rage over the BCS continues to grow. Bill Hancock, the new BCS full-time mouthpiece (as opposed to their part time hired guns) is staying on the offensive against playoff proponents. Mr Hancock now falls on my s-list right behind Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

“I know this is not completely popular, but I believe in it,” Hancock told reporters Thursday at the Football Writers Association of America awards breakfast. “I believe it is in the best interest of the universities.
“College football has never been better and I believe the BCS is part of that.”
So, football season is officially over. We are hiring. We are into the home stretch of recruiting season. Conference play for the basketball Dawgs begins tomorrow with a trip to the Nike/NBA developmental league in Lexington. The Gym Dawgs are breaking in a new coach, talk about big shoes to fill…
There is still a lot going on in the BullDawg Nation. I hope you will continue to check in from time to time to get my take on things.
I started this blog on July 1 of last year. I received 24 hits my first day. Thanks, BernieDawg. On November 1, I moved from blogspot to my own server/domain and upgraded the site a bit. DawgsBUI 2.0 garnered over 67,000 hits with more than 250k pageviews in the final two months of 2009. On December 16, more than 6,000 of you visited.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the support. I hope a simple “thank you” will suffice.
Go Dawgs!

Happy Thanksgiving

My family is preparing to head to Albany, or should I say suburban Albany (Lee County), to spend our Thansgiving with my sister and her family. That alone makes me thankful.
As I do every morning, I took my coffee with a full helping of Bulldog blogs, most of which gave thanks for our troops. Like so many thousands of others, my sister’s husband is thousands of miles away from Albany providing much needed medical care to our soldiers in Iraq. I am constantly aware of this, but failed to mention it in yesterday’s post. To say I was overcome with shame for failing to do so myself would be an understatement.
So please excuse me while I make amends.
Dr. Mark Benton, please know as I feast in your beautiful home with your incredible family that I am thankful to you. I am thankful for your service to our country. I am thankful for your service to your community. Mostly, I am thankful to you for being such a great husband and father. You are always missed. Stay safe and hurry home.

A Very Thankful BUI
Nov 25th
With no apologies to Furman “bury me on the flats” Bisher, here’s my list of things BUI is thankful for.
I am thankful for my family’s acceptance of my fanaticism as an admirable trait in a Southern gentleman.
I am thankful to be a Georgia Bulldog, no matter the record of our flagship programs.
I am thankful for the advances in medical technology that give Chance Veazey hope for what tomorrow may bring.
I am thankful Baccari Rambo was not seriously injured on a game saving play that, however briefly, reminded us their might be some things more important than football.
I am thankful for the colors we wear, orange is just ugly and yellow is yellow.
I am thankful the NCAA allows to recruit and sign quarterbacks every year even if our coaches do not feel the need.
I am thankful for all of the Seniors, I know they have done their best.
I am thankful for the future all of these young pups will give us.
I am thankful for Damon Evans hiring Mark Fox.
I am thankful for AJ Green, the only thing more impressive than his commitment to Georgia has been his play for Georgia.
I am thankful for the Columbus and Macon newspapers for giving us all an option to the AJC. Bigger is not always better.
I am still thankful for Mark Richt and believe he will get things turned around in surprisingly quick fashion.
I am thankful for the potential of our young quarterbacks.
I am thankful we are not running scared from Jacksonville. Bulldogs never retreat (except on kickoffs)
I am thankful for Coach Perno, Coach Landers and the retired Suzanne Yucolan.
I am thankful for the abundance of Bulldog fan blogs, the ones written by fans that do not fancy themselves as analysts, and do not take themselves too seriously.
I am thankful to Daugman and Alan Ashely for blogging about basketball when no others are.
I am thankful for the former player that is not afraid to be critical.
I am thankful for the former player that toes the company line.
I am thankful that the majority of Americans don’t “take their ball and go home” when you disagree with them.
I am thankful to my parents for allowing me to attend the University of Georgia. At the time, I took it for granted, 20 years hence I truly understand how privileged I am.
I am thankful that my children, even though they have the grades to go most anywhere, have their hearts set on Athens.
I am thankful for being an American, even if many of our politicians are not.
I am thankful for being able to share my thoughts with the world, even if the world doesn’t care.
I am thankful to you for stopping by every now and then, I really appreciate it.
