I am a Success
Jul 13th
Last night my son asked, “Dad, why aren’t we watching the Braves game?” I explained the Braves were not playing due to the All-star break, he said, “that sux.” I have never been more proud of my son.
Many of you know what I am talking about, for those that don’t I am not sure I can explain the feeling. To have your only son ask you to change the channel to the Braves game is heaven invading your eardrums, maybe even better. He is 6 years old and a devout Dawg, he loves the Dawgs, but last night was the first time he expressed a desire, of his own accord, to watch the Braves.
I had to fight back the tears. Lord, how I wish the Braves had been on. I briefly changed the channel to the homerun derby, but I explained that the homerun Derby was bad for a hitter’s stroke. I am not sure he understood, but he acted like he knew what I was talking about, and that was good enough for me.
I sincerely hope all of you men out there will have a moment like the one I experienced last night.
Thank you, Lord.
No Run Lindsay Equals Rex Rex Rex
Jul 12th
If you are not already reading Buck Belue’s blog, you should be. Today’s Belue post is a real beaut.
Buck will be on ESPN’s College Football Live today at 2. They will be discussing what would have happened had Lindsay not taken it to the house and destroyed all that property.
Sayeth Buck:
So, we need to move the ball twenty yards to get Rex Robinson a shot to win it with a FG. Rex told me he was good from 57 that day. In fact, Rex kicked two 57 yard field goals that season, and ended the season 4-6 from 50-plus. He was clutch. That was the plan all along. Let’s get Rex a shot to win it.
You gotta love Buck’s confidence.
There has been a great deal of talk about moving the WLOCP out of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville heat has even been brought up. Please allow me to plant my tongue firmly in my cheek and propose a solution to our Jacksonville dilemma.
Recruit more South Georgia boys! The Jacksonville heat doesn’t bother them. They didn’t grow up with the breeze from the Atlantic and the St. Johns. They grew up with an “I’m better than you” attitude and that is how they play the game, whatever the game may be.
Now that I got that out of the way, just imagine Larry’s call had things went down the way Buck says they would have. Rex’s Kentucky slaying is still one of my favorite Munson calls. Butler’s kick from Lumpkin Street is another. I have no doubt Larry would have come up with something that would have been every bit as memorable as “Run Lindsay.”
Embarrassment: The UGA Police Department
Jul 7th
As embarrassed as everyone associated with the university is, imagine how embarrassed genuine police officers are.
This country could use a lot more discretion, and a whole lot less “zero tolerance.”
Thank God these examples of incompetence are not tasked with policing a jurisdiction with, you know, actual criminals.
If Chicago or Baltimore ever have a rash of scooter or middle-name crimes, perhaps they will hire some of these ass-hats within the UGA PD. We definitely have a surplus.
The whole “protect and serve” thing just does not apply to the campus constables. Fortunately, they are the exception and not the rule.
