BUI Bones a Plenty
A night that could not have started any worse ended up better than I could have imagined. I thought we would win, primarily due to my lack of respect for Auburn. The horrible start just served to make the victory taste much sweeter.
Several players laid it on the line, and this list is in no way comprehensive of all the Dawgs that deserve recognition, but we are going to highlight a few.
Bacarri Rambo – Baccari was everywhere. If the ball was in the air he went after it, even if Reshad Jones was about to catch it. He just attacks. His run support was excellent. The game saving play at the goal line that left him injured was simply awesome. This morning’s reports are very encouraging concerning his injuries. This South Georgia tough Bulldog has a very bright future ahead of him. God Speed, young Rambo.
Justin Houston – The “adjustment” that turned the game around was the intense pressure we started getting on Auburn’s QB Chris Todd. Houston could not be stopped. He didn’t record many sacks, but his effort led to others getting the sack and several hurried and errant throws. Reshad Jones and Brandon Boykin should buy Justin dinner this evening.
Cornelius Washington – The next great one, The President of Pressure, Cornelius played fantastic. Every time Houston would flush Todd out of the pocket Washington was there.
Ben Jones – The offensive line as a whole played a pretty good game. Joe Cox was sacked way to many times, but I think a lot of that was just him holding onto the ball way too long. Ben Jones played with an enthusiasm and determination I think he has been lacking thus far this year. The kid has talent and he used it against Auburn. Let’s just tell him we are playing Auburn every week.
Israel Troupe – AJ Green went down to injury and we were 14 points behind. We needed people to step up, and step up they did. He looked like Michael Johnson out there. Way to GATA Israel! Everyone below the “Gnat Line” is very proud of you.
Tavarres King – TK is becoming money. Money, money, money. After AJ left the game, TK did his AJ impression. Cox had confidence in him and it payed off, big time! If I was a stud HS QB, I would love to go to Athens and play pitch and catch with this young receiving corps.
Reshad Jones – If Baccari Rambo were not so excellent, Reshad may have had three picks last night. He was tough against the run and really played great.
Mike Bobo – With the exception of the play AJ was injured on, we looked horrible offensively on our initial drives of the game. Perhaps Bobo so something on film that made him so determined to keep throwing bubble screens and hitches. They were not working. We looked scared on offense. Bobo adjusted. He remained true to the running game and took shots down field. Our offense for the final 40 minutes was beautiful. Auburn’s D was demoralized by the running game and when they crapt up to stop the run, Joe was able to make them pay (sans AJ Green).
Caleb King and Washaun Ealey – Hard running! Caleb was not seeking to bounce everything outside, if it was not there, he lowered his head and punished defenders. Eventually, Auburn tired of tackling Caleb and he made them pay. Washuan is living up to the hype. He may not be the fastest Dawg in the word, but his natural instincts for running the ball are amazing. Tailback U is not dead.
Willie Martinez – I can’t put my fingers on any specific adjustments or anything we really did differently scheme wise. We may have run a few stunts and twists up front. I can tell you, for the final three quarters Auburn’s QB was not comfortable in the pocket and that made pass coverage better. We gave up some running yards, but I have to tip my hat to Auburn’s running backs. They were patient and tough. Nice job Mr. Martinez.
