Tim Tebow: As Effective as Ever
As a true “Gator Hater” I am not to compliment the reptiles. Having watched the controversy over Tebow’s “abortion” ad that aired on during the Super Bowl, I can’t help but chuckle.
If you ever had your tail kicked by the big bully on the play ground you may know what I am talking about. You stood up to the bully. The bully did his thing. Pain and humiliation are your rewards. You doubt your reasons for ever having stood up to the bully.
Then a new kid comes to your school. The new kid has heard about the bully, but thinks he will be the one to teach the bully a lesson. Wrong. The bully prevails and you take some sort of morbid pleasure at another’s defeat at the hands of your rival.
In this analogy Tim Tebow plays the role of the bully, The Gloria Allred’s and their ilk are the “new kids.
Let me say, as a libertarian type, I am against most government, especially centralized government. If you are going to pass laws that affect my life you should have to live near me and face the consequences of your actions. Politicians should live among the governed. Relocation to Washington DC, or Hollywood for politicians, should not be an option.
I am not a pro-lifer. I am not a pro-choicer. I am thankful. I am thankful my mother did not abort me. I am thankful your mother did not abort you, dearest reader.
Back to the Tebow controversy.
The commercial was simply a Trojan horse. It, the commercial, had accomplished its goals before it ever ran. In fact, it did not need to run. The Tebow’s and Focus on the Family accomplished their every goal with a huge assist from Gloria Allred and the left-wing political pundits that fill the cable news day.
For two weeks, the left-wing crazies were gearing up in a prevent defense trying to stop Tebow from beating them deep. For two weeks Tebow advanced the ball down the field, chewing up clock, putting the game out of reach. Urban Meyer never designed a play for Tebow as effective as the one run by Focus on the Family.
I despise politicians, but enjoy the sport of politics. If there were a Heisman Trophy awarded for political campaigns I believe Focus on the Family just coached Tebow to another statue.

Laws were prevented from passing that would tell every women what the government could and could not do with their bodies. Allred and others were trying to prevent another onslaught on our laws to reverse the Supreme Court’s ruling (Roe vs Wade) that the government had no right to tell a person what they can or cannot do with their body. Prevention of government intrusion in our everyday life should be the Libertarians watchword, no matter the religious afrontery. If you are for joining religion and state then you are no Libertarian. Have you ever given a thought to what religion and politics do to us when mixed together? That was experienced in England when The Church of England mixed in their government. Many people immigrated here to escape that intrusion and set up a free world separation of church and state. You are sadly mistaken if you don’t know that the Consttution was written by Christians who were aware of that intrusion and provided for separation of church and state to prevent that from happening here. That provision is being eroded such that the groundwork laid for integration of church and state should coincide with the advent of the Muslim Religion as the dominant religion in the U.S.. “Give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s; Give unto God what is God’s” is more than a quote about titheing , it’s about separation of church and state as well. Unfortunately, the message about God’s Will for our bodies is taken by some Christians as a flag to make Ceasar’s law be enforced as God’s Law. Sounds like some unthinking people want the Taliban grassroots extended to our country.

Cojones,
My point was not to support the repeal of Roe v. Wade. I got a kick at how the purchasers of the ad allowed there opponents to get their message out. You have to admit it worked brilliantly.
I am all for limiting government. As long as you do not cause harm to me or my property, have it at is my general point of view. I want government out of my bedroom and out of my wallet.
I believe in the separation of church and state. I also acknowledge our country was created under God. Not your God or my God, but the existence of a higher order that we will all be held accountable to.
Abortion, sadly, is subjective in determining rights. Women should have the right to do as they choose with their bodies provided they are harming no other. There in lies the rub.
At what point does a fetus have rights? You have your answer, I have mine. No law, or court ruling is going to change our minds or anyone else’s.
In my cynical mind, abortion, whichever side an organization or political party falls, has become a fundraising issue, not a policy matter.
I am not for morality laws, but I am for morality.
I meant no offense with the post. I just wanted to point out the success of the tactics used. I think you imposed your own feelings on the matter into your reading of the post.

My point earlier is that I don’t need politics thrust into my sports, but we seem to always open it up to us. Unfortunately, the commercial from Focus on the Family serves to open up political opinions in our sports world and I don’t like it one bit. They should have entitled it “Win One for The Nipper” (with apologies to the Good Dawg originator of that quote). I cannot believe that we have had some dumbass gator thrust upon us politically and religiously. Next,we will probably have him linked to The Second Coming by someone writing about his wedding night. Cheez!!!
I pity Stafford when a new franchise called “The Christians” meets his team.

We agree on that. Sports is a uniter of those with differing political views and politics only serves to tarnish sport.
Poor Lions!

You imposed your feelings by using the words “left-wing political pundits” and “crazies”.

I should then acknowledge the right-wing crazies eagerness to engage in battle over a commercial that amounted to nothing.
I find the single issue minded people on both sides hilarious.

Mike- If you get a chance you might look up events transpiring on the Valdosta State U. campus around 1963(try the Valdosta Times(?) Archives). That conservative campus had Vespers every evening, but was not immune to an allout panty raid, palm tree-burning, campus wide riot. Besides the “Danger-Low Flying Aircraft” 4×8 sign stolen from the airport and placed on the campus, the Dean of Men’s VW was found inside the admin bldg-up two flights of stairs. Just a jaunt in history to let you know that conservatives let the free-flow of air thru their innards every once in a while. It all started as a Pep Rally before a big basketball game and it innocently got out of hand. So much for the intrusion of “left-wing crazies” into a conservative campus’s sports world.
Single issue-minded people are called Totalitarians. Libertarians, however, are pretty open-minded comparatively.

There was a time when being politically conservative meant believing in the constitution and the limits imposed on our federal government.
Sue to audible volume, evangelicals have usurped the mantle of conservatism. That is why I align myself with Libertarians.
I knew better than to post a story with the underlying theme of abortion. But politics fascinates me, and this was a definite gem by an evangelical group.
Cojones, I no more want to impose my way of living on others than I want them to impose theirs on me.
When I vote republican it is merely due to the fact it is easier to keep them out of my personal life than it is to keep democrats out of my wallet.
Please do not associate me with a hypocritical lot. I am perfectly content to let people make decisions for themselves and live with the consequences.

I think that Pam and Timmy have a good story. My point is that it belongs in another venue like Focus on the Family. T. Jefferson was a big believer in the Consttution as well and was against The Federalists who he thought were intruding government where it was not needed. Jefferson was a Democrat and the Federalists were (and still are) Republicans. What does that say about the propaganda put out by both parties as to who is a “left-winger” and a “right-winger”? It is all confused giberish to use those epithets for what well-meaning Americans all believe is “right”. The words are confusing to issues and invoke my ire. My apologies for the political discourse(discoarse?).
Yeah, HamDawg11. You do need a nap.

Allred & others believe that a woman’s right to choose is valid and acceptable ONLY if that choice is to abort a living human being. If that choice, such as that of Mrs. Tebow’s, is to choose life, hence not to abort, then those who take such a stance should not be allowed to voice their opinion. Allred would rather they stay silent while defending the right of pro abortionists to abort and celebrate their right to do so.
